UPDATE: Über ein Jahr später gibt es leider weiter keine eSIM bei Nokia, weder bei den Smartphones noch bei einer Smartwatch. eSIM Fans müssen also weiter andere Marken nutzen.
Nokia Patent deutet auf eSIM Ambitionen hin – Nokia bzw. HMD Global hat bisher keine eSIM Handys und Smartphones im Angebot. Das könnte sich in Zukunft ändern, denn es gibt eine neue europäische Markenanmeldung, die auch eSIM umfasst. Die eingetragene Marke lautet dabei SIMLEY und sie umfasst „SIM cards; embedded SIM cards; application software for mobile phones and smartphones“ und einiges mehr.
Bei GSMarena schreibt man im Original dazu:
The more important takeaway here is that HMD is planning to introduce eSIM compatible Nokia phones in the near future. While competitors like Apple and Google have offered this type of service on their devices for a number of years now, the new standard is still not that common.
Leider gibt es bisher nur wenige Hinweise, was genau Nokia bzw. GMD Global mit dieser Marke genau plant. Es gibt noch keine offizielle Mitteilung des Unternehmens und daher bleibt offen, was sich dahinter verbirgt. Auch wann wir mit einem Start von Simley rechnen können, bleibt offen. Dennoch ist es ein guter Schritt, dass Nokia in diese Richtung endlich aktiv wird und vielleicht gibt es ja bald neue eSIM Modelle auf dem Markt.
UPDATE: Mittlerweile gibt es einige Gerüchte, dass es möglicherweise eine Smartwatch von Nokia sein könnte, die als erstes eSIM unterstützt. Bei NDTV schreibt man dazu:
According to tipster who goes by the name @nokia_anew on Twitter, the Nokia smartwatch will come with support for eSIM and has already been certified for Wear OS use. The tipster has also mentioned that the upcoming Nokia smartphone will support eSIM as well. It is unclear if this eSIM support will be used for dual-SIM or the phone will be ditching physical SIM slot completely.
